Programs Selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
(1) Programs Recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology honored Tokai University Medical School's education model as a Distinctive University Education Program. Since its inception, Tokai's Medical School has focused on training high quality primary care physicians with the ability to assess patients' conditions and situations, utilizing community based training to enhance the academic training provided by the university. The focus of medical education at Tokai is to develop doctors with a breadth and depth of knowledge and skills to provide first class patient care the theme of the schools is "Collaboration between Community Medicine and Education in Medical Science."
(2) 2lst Century COE (Center of Excellence) Program
A research project led by Professor Hidetoshi Inoko of the Tokai University Graduate School of Medicine, "Genome-wide Scan of Disease Genes by Association Analysis Using Microsatellites," was selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a COE Program for the 2lst Century. The award is given to top doctoral level graduate schools in recognition of world-class research and education.  Professor Inoko's research led to a new method to efficiently map the human genome using a new system of microsatellites to ma p disease genes and the genes that determine attributes such as height, weight, facial features, intelligence and preferences. His research has led to the identification of numerous disease causing genes.
(3) Supporting the Needs of Modern Education
The "independent learning and individualized education - development and establishment of e-Learning for community colleges In the near future" at Tokai University Fukuoka Junior College was selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as a "Program to Support the Needs of Modern Education."  The program utilizes Distance Learning, making it possible for learning to take place anywhere, anytime and by anyone. In addition, quality instructional materials have been developed and adequate guidance and registration procedures implemented so any individual interested in learning could enroll, regardless of age, academic level or ability, physical challenges, or learning objectives. Additional e-Learning materials are being developed for 40 subjects, making it possible to complete up to 30 credits through e-Learning. Hereafter such materials and courses will be developed and materials will be made available to the general public through the internet.
