Tokai Univ. Alpine Club successfully reached the summit of "K2"
 established 2 world records

K2, also known as "Mt. God Austin", the second highest mountain to
Mt.Everest, is located in Karakorum segment a part of Himalayan range in
northan Pakistan, Standing at 28,251 feet (8,611 m). On August 1st, Tokai
University Alpine Club finally reached the summit of "K2,"Tuesday, 4:50 p.m
(Local time). K2 is said to be the world's most difficult place to clime.
The group consists of two brave sumitter, Ms. Yuka Komatsu and Mr. Tatsuya
Aoki. Ms. Komatsu is a 23-year-old graduate student of Tokai University.
She has become the first K2 sumitter as a Japanese woman (the eighth woman
in the world) and the world first woman that reached the summit from
south-southeast precipitous route. Mr. Aoki is a senior student of Tokai
University and he climed K2 at the age of just 21 and has become the
youngest sumitter in the world.
Overseas Aid Project to Myanmar
The Tokai University Head Office of International Affairs recently established the Tokai University Overseas Aid Project (T-AID) as part of its peace promotion activities. 

As its first project, approximately 36,000 household items such as clothing and dishes will be shipped to Union of Myanmar as relief materials.  These items were donated by the major clothing and general goods distribution company, Yugen Co., Ltd.  (Mr. Ming-Ta Hsieh, the president of the company is a 1984 graduate of the Tokai University, School of School of Political Science and Economics  All the tags with prices and brads of clothing need to be removed in order not to be sold in a market.  Members of Aibeni, an international volunteer club, Tokai students, professors and staff carried out this job by hand. At the presentation ceremony held at Tokai University Members’ Club on June 14, Chancellor Jiro Takano gifted a catalogue of the relief materials to Ambassador Hla Myint from Myanmar Embassy of Japan.

 His Excellency Hla Myint e showed his appreciation on his speech.  “I would like to represent my people in expressing our appreciation of the donation by the students, professors, and staff of Tokai University.  I hope that this leads to the furthering of relations between Myanmar and Japan.”  At the ceremony, Keisuke Okada of Aibeni (senior year student in School of Humanities and Culture) expressed his hopes, saying  “I hope these relief materials will be delivered to people who really need them safely and this activity will become an interaction with people as well as material goods.

 In accordance with the founding mission of the university, the Tokai University Head Office of International Affairs will continue to promote the Tokai University Overseas Aid Project for the world peace.President Matsumae Conferred the Russian Order of Friendship


Dr. Tatsuro Matsumae, President of the Tokai University Educational System, was awarded the Order of Friendship from the Russian Federation

Tokai University, along with President Matsumae, has been actively developing relations at the civilian level since the days of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the Cold War.  To date, Tokai University has accepted over 300 exchange students and has strived for  further deepen relations between two countries through exchange of education, academic research, cultural and sports 

 The Order of Friendship was awarded in recognition of the great contribution that President Matsumae has made to strengthening mutual friendship relations through his various activities.  The award ceremony was held on Thursday, May 11, at the Russian Embassy in Tokyo with a large audience.

Visit by the Thai Ministry of Education Delegation

    A group, led by Dr. Pavich Tongroach, Secretary General of the Commission on Higher Education for the Thai Ministry of Education, visited Shonan Campus on Friday, July 7.

    The group consisted of six members, Dr Pavich Tongroach,  Kitti Tiraseath, President of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), a graduate of Tokai University; Supannee Sombuntham, Director of Thailand Cyber University; and two other members from KMITL.

    They were to visit TICU, Tokai International Cyber University, which was seleceted as a part of Cyber Campus Project by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2002.  Prof. Wakabayashi, Chairman of TICU….. , Lecturer Sachiko Hiyugaji from Information Technology Center and some other staff of Educational Support Center gave the group the information of the project and guided them Shonan Campus.

    The group also had a meeting with nineteen students from KMITL, who are to join Japanese Language Course from this Fall semester.  They are now joining “Pre-Japanese Twinning Program”.  They enjoyed meeting in a friendly atomosphere.   

    After the meeting the KMITL students, the group had a meeting with Chancellor Jiro Takano and Executive Director Yasuo Tanaka of the Office of the Chancellor and exchanged active ideas regarding cyber campuses, e-learning, and ways to further deepen cooperative relations
