Timeline of Tokai University

1943

• Apr. The Aerial Science College, the predecessor of Tokai University, opens in Miho, Shimizu City, Shizuoka.

1944

• Apr. The Electric Wave Science College opens in Ekoda, Nakano-ku, Tokyo.

1945

• Aug. Consolidation of the Aerial Science College and the Electric Wave.
• Science College into the Tokai College of Science.

1946

• May. Recognition of Tokai University under the old system of education.
• The School of Science, the School of Economics and the Humanities, and the Preparatory Course open.

1950

• Apr. Official recognition as a university under the new system of education.
• The School of Engineering and the School of Letters open.

1960

• Apt. An experimental FM broadcasting station (F.M. Tokai/FM-JS2H) opens.

1962

• Apr. The School of Marine Science and Technology opens.

1963

• Apr. The Graduate School of Engineering opens.
• The School of Engineering II opens.

1964

• Apr. The School of Science opens.

1966

• Apr. The School of Political Science and Economics opens.
• Fukuoka General Education Dept. of the School of Engineering opens in Taku, Munakata City, Fukuoka.

1967

• Apr. The Graduate School of Marine Science and Technology opens.
• The School of Physical Education opens.
• The School of Engineering, Sapporo General Education Dept. opens in Minamisawa, Minami-ku, Sapporo City, Hokkaido.

1968

• Apr. The School of Humanities and Culture opens.
• The Graduate School of Science opens.

1969

• Apr. The Graduate School of Letters opens.

1971

• Apr. The Graduate School of Political Science opens.

1973

• Apr. The Graduate School of Arts opens.

1974

• Apr. The School of Medicine opens.
• Numazu General Education Dept. opens a School of Marine Science and Technology in Nishino, Numazu City, Shizuoka.

• Apr. The Graduate School of Physical Education opens.

• Apr. The Graduate School of Economics opens.

• Apr. The Graduate School of Medicine opens.

• Apr. The School of Law opens.

• Mar. Sapporo General Education Dept. closes the School of Engineering and Numazu General Education Dept. closes the School of Marine Science and Technology.

1990

• Mar. Fukuoka General Education Dept. closes its School of Engineering.
• Apr. The Graduate School of Law opens.

1991

• Apr. The School of High-Technology for Human Welfare opens.

1995

• Apr. The School of Health Sciences opens.
• The Graduate School of High-Technology for Human Welfare opens.

1999

• Apr. The Graduate School of Health Sciences opens.

2001

• Apr. The School of Information Technology and Electronics opens.

2004

• Apr. Professional Graduate School (Law School) opens.

2005

• Apr. Unified Graduate School opens.

2006

• Apr. The School of Information Technology and Electronics changes its name to the School of Information Science and Technology.
• Apr. The School of Engineering II changes its name to the School of Information & Design Engineering (Evening Sessions).

2007

• Apr. Professional Graduate School (Embeded Technology Course) opens.
• Apr. The Graduate School of Human Environmnetal Studies opens.
