Originally founded as Tokai University Kumamoto Junior College,
Kyushu Tokai University was established as a four-year university
following organizational reforms undertaken in 1973. Having established
a School of Engineering and a Graduate School of Engineering at the
Kumamoto campus, and a School of Agriculture and Graduate School of
Agriculture at the Aso campus, Kyushu Tokai University is developing
educational and research programs that, while locally located, have a
global perspective.
The University's School of Engineering takes full advantage of
leading-edge technologies to develop engineers who welcome the
challenge of new problems, and its School of Agriculture promotes
agricultural studies that address ties to local industries, as well as
issues of food production, the environment, and natural resources. In
addition, a School of Information Science will be added to the Kumamoto
campus in April 2000. In conjunction with that change, the schools of
engineering and agriculture will also be completely reorganized so that
the university will have three schools and ten departments. The three
schools will work closely with one another and with the local community
to address issues such as energy, natural resources, the
information-oriented society, food production, environmental problems,
and other issues.
